Safety awareness notification

Required by law where you may be registering, and repeated here because it is correct. Read it before you create an account.

  1. There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.
  2. Never include your last name, e-mail address, home address, phone number, place of work, or any other identifying information in your internet profile or your first messages. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information, or who tries in any way to trick you into revealing it.
  3. If you choose to meet another member face to face, always tell someone in your family or a friend where you are going and when you will be back. Never agree to be picked up at your home. Provide your own transport to and from the meeting, and meet in a public place with other people around.

BEARING DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS OR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS ON ITS MEMBERS.

We also do not verify identity. The age gate is a stated date of birth checked against being at least eighteen, which stops a form and does not stop somebody lying on it. The safety centre has the rest of it — what blocking and reporting actually do, and what is checked on a photograph before anyone sees it.

At least 10 characters. Length beats symbols, and we will never ask you to change it on a schedule.

You have to be 18. We ask once, here, rather than three screens in — and your age band is used for matching, so it has to be right.

SeparatelyAnswering the values questions needs a second, explicit consent. It gets its own screen, it is not bundled into this checkbox, and you can withdraw it later. That is the law and it is also just correct.
